Trudy Wiesenberger is the founder and first curator of the University Hospitals Fine Art Collection from 1988 until she retired in 2011. Her passion for art and her discerning eye in seeking out work for this outstanding collection, one of the first of its kind at a hospital in the country, earned her recognition for her contribution to the visual arts from the Cleveland Artists Foundation (now ARTneo) in 1998 and in 2010 she was the recipient of the Martha Joseph Prize awarded by Cleveland Arts Prize.
A native Clevelander, Trudy said that she was “really little” when she first went as a child to the Cleveland Museum of Art where she obviously was initially inspired and enthralled by art. Following high school, Trudy majored in art education, with a minor in wood sculpture, at The Ohio State University. During summer vacations she worked at the Art Museum, and after graduating from college, she worked there first as a public relations assistant and then subsequently joined the education department, teaching classes and leading tours. |
